Globally, the total number of confirmed
coronavirus cases outside of China is now more than 2056 cases with the numbers growing by the hour. There have been 26 reported deaths from the
coronavirus and the spread is now officially reported in 32 countries with more than 147,200 suspected cases spanning 116 countries being investigated.
China itself as claimed by their health authorities, has had about 2443 deaths from the
coronavirus and only 76,942 confirmed infected cases. (many are aware that none of the figures by China are credible and that the actual numbers are most probably higher by many folds.)
Many new information has also emerge from the various research on the
coronavirus but off late China has stopped any of its researchers from publishing their research reports online or in any medical or scientific journals overseas without prior permission. Failure to do so can result in federal charges. Many of these research cast doubts on how the current epidemic is being managed by health and government authorities including issues such as quarantines as new Chinese research suggest that the incubation period of the
coronavirus can be even much longer than assumed.
While the number of cases of the
coronavirus is fast spreading and increasing to various countries around the world, many are waiting and asking as to when the WHO would declare a global pandemic and also start taking proper actions for a change instead of mere talks, briefings, twitters and singing praises for China.
Politicians in the US and Europe are also echoing the same thoughts that WHO seems to a paper tiger, full of bureaucracy and not much proactive actions.
Many are also beginning to question the agenda of WHO director-general, Ethiopian national, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. To date his main focus has been praising China and basing all communiqué about the coronavirus on data supplied by China. He also seems to be focusing more on raising funds and supporting poorer African nations while not coming up with any concrete measures that can show results to curtail the current
coronavirus crisis.
One virologist from the US said. ”They seemed clueless and are only learning whatever they know from China and giving daily briefs and updating their sites based on this. It is not only dangerous but also non-proactive.”
Another activist from the UK asked, “Don’t all lives matter or does Dr Tedros think that only African lives only matter?”
