The Permanent Secretary From The Ministry Of Public Health,
Thailand,
Dr. Sukhum Kanchanapimai has just announced that 6 more cases of individuals have been confirmed to be infected with the new
2019-nCov virus from
China. Of the six, 5 were a family from
Hebei that came to
Thailand for a more than a week now and initially never had any symptoms when they entered
Thailand. Another also a Chinese national is from Chongqing province in
China. They are all currently being treated at at Bamrasnaradura Institute.

This new cases bring the current toll to Thailand at 14. However they are now many new cases of patients under observations sprouting up all over the country as being suspected of carrying the new
coronavirus. These patients are manifesting symptoms but diagnostic and genomic profiling tests have either yet to be done or are awaiting results which can sometimes take up to two to four days. Some of these patients are in cities like Bangkok, Pattaya, Lamphun, Chiangmai, Chiangrai ,Phuket, Samui, Phangnga, Krabi etc. However it is too early or premature to assume that they are infected with the new
coronavirus until test results confirm as such. In a lot of cases, many were simply normal influenza. To date there are about more than 80 cases that are termed to be currently under observations.
Many are however speculating that
Thailand has the potential of being the second epicenter for the new
coronavirus as more than 920,000 Chinese tourists had travelled into the country since December 16 to now. Even more disturbing is that it was reported in other local media this morning that there are more than 20,000 Chinese currently stranded in
Thailand with 85 % of them from
Wuhan! The Thai authorities have said that they are assigning 5,000 health officials to look after them! (we are not sure in what way?)
The Thai authorities have come out to say many times that they have the situation under control and that every point of entry has thermal scanners (although new data shows that this is no longer an effective deterrent as those infected might not show any symptoms plus they can still spread the new
coronavirus). Also what other stringent measures that they have to protect local Thai citizens and expats have not been clearly outlined as usual.
"font-size:14px">Thailand is one of the few countries that has been having huge Chinese tourists inflows and have not issued any controls to ban Chinese tourist or travellers as the local authorities are desperate for the Chinese tourist dollar due to its domestic economy being in a bad shape.
