In another blow to China’s PR machine, the newly build 1,600 bed hospital in Wuhan that was named the Thunder God
Hospital and was China’s pride to show the world that despite the
coronavirus epidemic and the pressure that it was facing, it was resilient and capable of achieving amazing feats, was deemed unusable yesterday when a heavy wind and snow storm hit Wuhan on Sunday.
Patients and equiptment was moved from the flooded and leaking hospital
The
hospital was damaged in several areas including its roof, water tanks etc and the whole building experienced leaks and flooding that caused critical equipment failures.
Patients had to be evacuated and shifted to other locations while authorities are assessing the damage and repairs needed.
The new
hospital that was meant to be served as a quarantine center for
coronavirus infected patients will suspend services till repairs are done but this will affect the delay of treatment for new patients.
Repair work being done on roof early this morning
Construction of Thunder God
Hospital, meant to provide the city with an additional 1,600 beds to treat
coronavirus patients, started on Jan. 27. The first buildings came into use on Feb. 8.
An American official from a US based
hospital accreditation agency commented, ”what do u expect from a fast and cheaply constructed hospital that does not meet any international standards, it just like any other Chinese product, cheap but does not last long!”
All hospitals nationwide in China are currently under stress due to overflowing patients and shortage of medical supplies. In many cities, patients are being turned away despite exhibiting coronavirus symptoms as the
hospitals are placing priority on accepting only those in severe stages of the disease. Those that are turned away are serving indirectly as human vectors to help spread the disease even more despite China’s claim to have the situation under control and WHO’s praises for China.
China is in the midst of building more such fast and cheaply constructed
hospitals all over the country to meet the overgrowing demand for medical care as a result of the
coronavirus.
