Investigating the Source: A Community on Alert
Health authorities are actively investigating the source of the infection to prevent any further spread within the community. The Ministry of Health has confirmed that this is the 10th human case of H5N1 recorded in Cambodia this year, underscoring the need for continued vigilance.

The Ministry has deployed emergency response teams in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, as well as the Ministry of Environment, to track down the origin of the virus and identify any other potential cases.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that, about five days before the girl fell ill, numerous chickens in her village had died suddenly. These dead chickens were reportedly shared among villagers, including the victim's family, for cooking. It was further noted that the girl had handled one of the dead chickens before it was prepared for a meal, a likely point of transmission.

Health Authorities' Response: Preventing a Broader Outbreak
In response to this tragic event, the Ministry of Health is taking several critical steps to prevent a potential outbreak. These include distributing Tamiflu, an antiviral medication, to those who may have been exposed, and launching a health education campaign within the affected villages. Additionally, teams are conducting thorough investigations into both animal and human cases to understand the transmission dynamics and prevent the virus from spreading further.

The Ministry has urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas where poultry deaths have been reported. They emphasized the importance of seeking i mmediate medical attention if individuals develop symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, or shortness of breath, especially if they have had contact with sick or dead chickens. Avoiding crowded places and attending public gatherings is also advised to prevent further transmission.

Public Health Warning: Staying Safe Amid the H5N1 Threat
This tragic loss serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by the H5N1 avian flu virus, particularly in regions where poultry farming is prevalent. The Ministry of Health is calling on all citizens to take the situation seriously and adhere to health advisories to protect themselves and their communities from this deadly virus.
