The China’s agriculture ministry has officially announced that the highly pathogenic
H5N6 strain of
avian flu has emerged in a various farms throughout the province Sichuan over the weekend.
This is the first time that the
H5N6 avian flu strain has been detected in poultry farm for this year in China though in the past it was detected in Swans and there were also fatal cases of human transmissions during that time.
The
H5N6 Avian flu strain is different from the H5N1 Avian flu strain that struck Hunan province in China last month. This is more pathogenic and also can pass to humans more easily and often with fatal consequences.
The Chinese agriculture ministry said on Sunday night 1,840 birds had died one farm while other farms in the province are also reporting emerging cases. Authorities are rushing to cull the chickens and to date no confirmed human transmissions have been reported though 5 farm staff from one farm had reported sick and are currently under observation.
China is already battling a
H5N1 avian flu breakout in Hunan province that is yet to be eradicated as there are still sporadic cases emerging in farms in Hunan.
China is also in a midst of a domestic pandemic with more than 815 deaths from the new 2019-nCoV
coronavirus that is ravaging the country. Officially confirmed cases are now almost 41,000 while many are speculating that at least 2 million Chinese are already infected with the
coronavirus that is still evolving and mutating.
