Thai health authorities announced on Tuesday afternoon during a media conference that 6 more individuals in
Thailand were infected with the
coronavirus. This bring the total to 25, which many epidemiology experts consider to be very low since the numbers of Chinese nationals that had travelled to
Thailand between December 2019 to January 2020 were phenomenal, including the numbers from Wuhan.
Of the six more people found to be infected with the novel
coronavirus in
Thailand, four are Thais and two are Chinese tourists, Thai health officials said on Tuesday.
Director-general of the Disease Control Department, Dr Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, told media personnel that the four Thais included a couple who had just visited Japan. The other two infected were Thai males who were drivers who carried Chinese tourists in their vehicles.
Of the 25, one is in critical condition and is described as a 70 year old male with the
coronavirus as well as tuberculosis. He is currently on a respirator.
Meanwhile a female South Korean tourist who became the 16
th coronavirus infected case in South Korea said that she had contracted the virus during a holiday trip to
Thailand. She has never been to China nor has she ever had any contacts with any Chinese nationals.
Thai officials are investigating further to ascertain which hotel she had stayed at in
Thailand and also individuals that could have had contacts with her.
To date, no countries have issued travel advisories against
Thailand due to this nor has any airlines banned any flights to
Thailand.
