World COVID-19 News: Health authorities In Mexico have reported that more than 111 medical personnel have died from the COVID-19 disease while the SRA-CoV-2 coronavirus has also infected between 8,500 and 15,000 hospital and healthcare personnel.
Dr Hugo López-Gatell, the Mexican Assistant Health Secretary said the dead included 66 doctors, 16 nurses and 29 other hospital staff, including support personnel, dentists and lab techs.
To date there are about 8,544 confirmed COVID-19 cases among health professionals in Mexico, and another 6,747 suspected cases, many of which are awaiting test results.
Mexico’s total SARS-CoV02 coronavirus case load has increased to 36,412 cases, with 3,612 deaths, (Tuesday, 12
th May ) though health officials have acknowledged the true number is probably much higher.
Certain cities in Mexico have seen a lot of cases but are tapering off. Others like Mexico City appear to be at their peak. And still other cities have not seen many cases at all.
Dr López-Gatell said due that reason, the plan for a partial re-opening of Mexico expected later this week would be different in each region, noting "it no longer makes sense to have a safe-distancing policy on a national level."
Hospitals in Mexico are reporting an acute shortage of medical supplies and equipment. Doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff lack all forms of PPEs and protective equipment such as masks, eye goggles and even gloves.
Contrary to Mexican health officials reports, the situation is actually getting worst on a daily basis and there is a lot of under reporting according to concerned doctors on the frontlines.
