COVID-19 News: While Christmas in Finland is traditionally one of the most joyful festivities in the country, the COVID-19 crisis driven by the JN.1 variant is causing a state of depression in many as COVID-19 death rates and hospitalizations continue to surge.
Strangely, no mainstream media or international wire agencies are reporting on the unfolding crisis in the country.
A group of independent researchers have been monitoring the situation in Finland and giving timely updates on the developing situation there and the latest update shows that COVID-19 death rates are still rising in the country.

The official data from the Finnish health authorities which are not updated properly and not transparent however also shows that deaths rates due to COVID-19 as shown on death certificates, are also rising.

While health authorities in Finland claim that COVID-19 infection rates are falling, they do not disclose the number of daily tests conducted nor do they reveal the COVID-19 test positivity rates!
Furthermore, the claimed falling COVID-19 infection rates do not tally with the rising COVID-19 hospitalization and death rates!
It should be noted that all proper collated COVID-19 data typically is released much later in Finland and even the credibility of all such data is questionable.
For example, while an excess mortality report was published 3 weeks ago which showed that COVID-19 contributed to rises in excess death rates in Finland in the years 2021 and 2022, many local experts feel that the actual numbers of excess deaths due to COVID-19 are much more than what was reported.

While the actual number of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Finland are still rising, clinics and hospitals in several cities have to necessitate the reduction of non-urgent services to accommodate COVID-19 patients.
It was reported in local
COVID-19 News reports that in the largest of the Finnish health districts, serving west central Pirkanmaa, the preparedness level was raised to high demand mode last week.
District director Marina Erhola commented, "The situation has been developing gradually over weeks since November. We currently have a significant number of COVID-19 patients."
At present, all individuals aged 65 and above in Finland, as well as those in risk groups, are recommended to receive both seasonal influenza and COVID-19 shots.
Locals are reporting on various social media platforms that hospitals are overflowing in three regions besides Pirkanmaa, and there have been reports and complains from across Finland about hours-long wa
iting times and difficulties in getting access to treatments and even vaccination appointments.
Various health districts said that they no longer have extra manpower now. Based on a decree change by the government in June, COVID-19 has become a "monitored communicable disease." Additional government financing has also expired making it things difficult for health districts to mage the COVID-19 crisis properly.
The COVID-19 crisis expected to worsen over coming weeks as Christmas and the New Year holidays are expected to further contribute to the spread of the JN.1 variant and its various other emerging spawns across Finland.
