COVID-19 News: The United States is entering a worrisome hyperendemic phase as emerging data is showing that the COVID-19 positivity data in many states across the country is now exceeding more than 50 percent and considering that there is not much testing done coupled with the fact the current rapid antigen test kits used by many are no longer that reliable, the actual rates could be much higher.

A hyperendemic phase is when persistent high levels of disease occurrence occurs and it typically also coincides with high hospitalization rates and also an increase in mortality rates.
In this COVID-19 context, the situation in manifesting in America as a result of the debut of the America variant called XBB.1.5 that is more transmissible and has a better growth advantage along with the fact the country is facing a continuous onslaught by a cluster of more than 200 SARS-CoV-2 variants, sub-lineages and recombinant variants and will be continuously replaced by newer ones! The situation that the United States is entering is no difference form what is already occurring in China, the United Kingdom and Japan. Do not be surprised that within the next 16 weeks the whole world will ultimately enter this dangerous hyperendemic phase!
The American variant or XBB.1.5 though has become more transmissible due to the F486P mutation found on it that apparently increases its binding capability to human ACE2 receptors, is however believed to be slightly less immune evasive to than the original XBB variant.

Americans should not just pay attention to just the XBB.1.5 variant but rather try to avoid getting exposed to any SARS-CoV-2 variant or sub-lineage as all are just as dangerous to one either upon initial infection or in terms of long-term health.

Americans should not also be swayed by experts or health authorities who claim that some of the circulating variants are mild or do not cause disease severity as while they might not kill you immediately upon infection, they can affect you in many other ways and cause more worrisome health issues that affects your quality of life!
