Death Toll 56, Infected 1975. China’s Virus Epidemic Death and Infections Rates Not Making Sense. Are China Officials Blatantly Lying?

As of Sunday, 8am Bangkok time, Chinese health officials released information saying that the death toll as a result of the
2019-nCoV virus (or
Wuhan Virus) is now 56 while the number infected is 1975, of which 324 individuals are in severe critical condition. However, based on observations by two of
Thailand Medical News ground staff in
Wuhan and Beijing, the figures do not make any sense.
Yesterday the figures
China released in the morning was 41 deaths. In the last 24 hours, in just one hospital in
Wuhan (
Wuhan Central Hospital) out of the 16 hospitals there that are overflowing, there were more than 16 deaths from the new coronavirus but this morning’s tally for the whole of
China was a mere 56.
Furthermore in various provinces like Hebei, Jiangsu, Heilongjiang and Shanghai the numbers infected are already running into hundreds with similar scenarios like
Wuhan beginning to materialize in plain view but again the tally for those infected for the whole of
China is a mere 1975 from 1400 yesterday morning.
Currently every province in
China has reported cases of the disease with the only exception of Tibet.
Canada has reported its first case while Singapore detected a fourth case this morning. Malaysia reported its fourth case last night.
The number of countries exposed at the moment is at follows : Thailand (5 cases), Hong Kong ( 5 cases),Australia (4 cases), Singapore (4 cases),Malaysia (4 cases), France(3 cases), Japan (3 cases),Taiwan (3 cases), Macao (2 cases), South Korea (2 cases), Vietnam (2 cases), United States(2 cases), Canada (1 case),Nepal (1 case) and Mexico (1 case).
Surprisingly there has been no increase in the number of infected cases in
Thailand that is expecting more than 900,000 Chinese travellers to the country for the month January alone. Many suspected cases reported in online media and social media has been dismissed as fake news. Thai authorities has announced that they have thermal scanning equipment installed at all points of entry in the country.
However it seems that these same authorities are not aware that the new coronavirus disease can be
asymptomatic in those infected ie infected individuals may not show symptoms till latent stages hence making such deterrent platforms such as thermal scanners useless. Furthermore, the incubation period of the
virus is now confirmed to be anything between 2 to 10 days.
Other countries of concern include Myanmar, Philippine and Cambodia where despite having lots of Chinese travellers in and out, there has been no news about infected cases surfacing.
Meanwhile in
China, Beijing is now also under a sort of lockdown with all public transport in and out of the capital halted. With effect midnight of the 27
th, all external and internal travel and tour groups in and out of
China are to be terminated. (many are still wondering about the details of this official announcement and its implications.)
The US, France, UK and Jordan are conducting evacuation rounds for all its citizens in Wuhan in the next 24 hours though Jordan
has now extended it to all its citizens in the whole of
China.
Healthcare workers are facing great stress in
China due to the overflowing stream of patients and shortage of medical supplies. Despite reassurances from the government, food supplies are also disappearing from stores all over the country with no sight of replenishments.
Leading
vaccine manufacturers are also stating the reality that it would take at least 6 months before a
vaccine could materialize even with international collaborations and with all existing resources.
What is disturbing however is the fact that governments in many countries are downplaying the severity of the new
coronavirus epidemic in
China with the UN and WHO dragging its feet. Are they doing so to prevent panic and also for economical and political reasons or is there something that we are not aware of.
