Medical News: It seems that there is a never-ending saga of various disease outbreaks occurring in the Southern state of Kerala-India.
More Than 5,000 Cases Of ‘Mysterious Fever’ Cases In Kochi-Kerala
Over The Last 12 Days
In the beginning of the year, there were reports of outbreaks of pertussis, dengue, various respiratory infections, malaria, measles and even chicken pox. There are also reported cases of hepatitis and cholera outbreaks in certain small rural communities across Kerala.
Most recently there was reports of mumps outbreaks and also West Nike Fever emergence in the Southern Indian state while the H5N1 outbreaks in poultry farms is gaining traction as more livestock and farms are being affected.

Kerala which has one of the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates in India and also in the world seems to be having constant outbreaks of various diseases in the last two years along with a number of COVID-19 surges and the SARS-CoV-2 virus has not completely gone away from the state as there are still cases being identified constantly.
And now, local Indian media, the Times of India has reported about the outbreak of a ‘mysterious’ fever that has affected more than 5,000 individuals in the last 12 days!
Details Of The Mysterious Fever Outbreak
Before we even dig into details of this new outbreak, it should be noted that it is getting stranger these days when media and even
medical professionals are now reporting about symptoms rather than about diseases! I am not sure if soon we will see a trend of headlines reading like….”Mysterious Headache Outbreak”, “Mysterious Body Pain Surge”, “Outbreak Of Mysterious Hematuria” or “More Males Having Flaccid Penis Issues In San Francisco” etc
In this age of technological, medical and diagnostic advancement, I also find it ridiculous that even after 12 days, no one can pinpoint what pathogen or disease is causing a rise of individuals manifesting fevers!
Anyway, back to the
Medical News coverage by the Times of India, according to the news report, more than 5,000 cases of what is described as fever cases has been recorded in the district of Ernakulam in the city of Kochi in Kerala.
It was reported that the surge of fever cases started in late April and as in the last 12 days has reached a total of 5,104 cases. An average of 425 cases of such fevers per day are being reported across hospitals and healthcare facilities in Ernakulam.

The report is also confusing as it states that rising temperatures are possibly causing weakened immunity and are contributing factors to these infections. (It failed to specify what pathogen is causing these infections.)
Interestingly, the article quotes a medical doctor i.e. Dr Junaid Rahman, former superintendent, Ernakulam General Hospital as blaming spending more time in air-conditioned room as causing lower immunity and hence resulting in these fevers!
The article also says that local health authorities are expecting the fever cases to continue rising and also makes reference to climate change as behind the rise of these fever cases.
While shifting through all the reported garbage and making direct calls to hospitals in Ernakulam, we have ascertained that yes, there is a rise of both admissions and also outpatient cases of individuals manifesting fevers but no one can specifically tell us as to what is causing these fevers!
We also like to advise that the many health 'experts' and doctors from Kerala should spend more time and efforts to help solve the issue of rising disease outbreaks in Kerala instead of spending time on twitter trying to impress or gain recognition from the Westerners. Focus on efforts in your own home state and country.
We will be providing more updates on the situation unfolding in Ernakulam.
