LATEST! Coronavirus Showing Resistance To Earlier Antivirals, Seems To be Evolving

Chinese doctors and researchers from Wuhan General Hospital, The Pasteur Institute at Shanghai and Institute of Virology At Hubei are all concerned that the
coronavirus seems to be evolving and becoming virulent and stronger.
Some of the observations by doctors from Wuhan General Hospital was that in the initial patients, once the symptoms manifested, it took some time before the disease progressed to the latent stages, where the patient developed severe pneumonia and ARDS (acute respiratory disease syndrome) and subsequently kidney or multiple organ failure. However of late the progress seems to be faster and that’s why there are lots more of patients in critical conditions now.
Also in the initial stages of the breakout, doctors at Wuhan General Hospital, after testing with numerous HIV antivirals and even influenza antivirals and combinations, developed their own treatment protocol by using a combo of antivirals such as opinavir and
ritonavir
along with nebulized alpha-interferon and it worked on most of the patients, as progress and recovery could be seen. However off late, the same treatment protocol does not seem to work anymore and many patients are displaying signs that resistance has been developed, with some regressing into a worse state, indicating that the
coronavirus has started to developing an antiviral resistance to these drugs.
Over at Pasteur Institute Shanghai, researchers there are warning that already various studies have shown that the
coronavirus is evolving while in the patients and also while being passed from person to person.
The fact that patients not displaying symptoms are able to transmit the
coronavirus indicates something alarming. As typically such respiratory viruses are normally transmitted thru the mouth via coughing in which minute droplets are exposed or thru the nose when the nasal fluids are released through sneezing or blowing of the nose.
If a person is not showing any symptoms, then the only possible means is through the exhaled air of the infected individual, which implies that the virus is an extremely potent airborne pathogen.
Also current trials at Wuhan General with various new drugs are not showing any positive outcome.
What has been observed so far is that it is only the patients who are younger and without any underlying problems and a strong immunity system are the ones that seem to be getting better but that constitutes a small number compared to those infected or dying. Furthermore it is now seen that many younger patients without any underlying medical conditions are also progressing into critical conditions after contracting the
coronavirus and some even dying. Among the new deaths reported, there are already patients as young as 27 years of age having died from the
coronavirus in Hubei without any underlying disease.
Meanwhile experts elsewhere in the US are saying that it will need at least another 15 days to a m
onth, before the real potential of this
coronavirus is understood.
Unlike the SARS virus that started out as being deadly and potent but later died down, and was also a good candidate to decipher out, this new surpassingly milder
coronavirus is somewhat tricky and more difficult to figure out.
