MUST READ! COVID-19 Supplements: Could Rutin Be The Secret Ingredient In China’s TCM Formulations That Helped Treat COVID-19 As Adjuvant Protocols?

COVID-19 Supplements: During the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in China, local health authorities assembled the country’s top Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and institutions, and numerous formulations were tried out in some cases by themselves in COVID-19 patients exhibiting mild to moderate symptoms and in critical ill patients as an adjuvant protocol alongside antivirals.
As the correct formulations were identified and refined according to the demonstrated efficacy, many of these formulations were included in the national guidelines for treating COVID-19 patients and many were mass produced for mandatory usage by its citizens. However despite certain open source sites showing some of these formulations, many Chinese TCM experts say that these are not the correct formulations as China does not want to share the therapeutics that it had used to control the COVID-19 crisis to the rest of the world. Not only is it deemed illegal to export any of these TCM formulations to other countries, but many research studies on these TCM formulations mysteriously disappeared.
Thailand
Medical News had identified two main ingredients in these many formulations that had the prospect of being able to possess certain properties to help treat to a certain extent, the COVID-19 disease. One was Licorice root which we have done an article on as early as January.

The other ingredient or rather a plant phytochemical found in many of the herbs used is Rutin.
Rutin is actually a citrus flavonoid glycoside found in many plants including buckwheat, the leaves and petioles of
Rheum species,
Asparagus, Clingstone' peaches
, green tea and also in the various Chinese herbs.
Rutin, also called rutoside, quercetin-3-O-rutinoside or sophorin, is the glycoside combining the flavonol quercetin and the disaccharide rutinose (α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranose).
Studies have shown that Rutin has a variety of properties including analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral , anti-bacterial and anti-coagulant properties.(see more studie

Studies also showed that it had efficacy against the SARS coronavirus of 2003 and other computional analysis also showed its potential as candidate for further research against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

A research was also done and submitted to WHO to indicate its prospective candidacy for further research.

Now a team of researchers from New York and Massachusetts, using computational analysis for drug repurposing studies have discovered that rutin has the potential to inhibit the Mpro’s activities thus effectively halting the replication processes of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The preprint study that is currently being peer-reviewed in published in on the chemrvix server.
https://chemrxiv.org/articles/In_Silico_Exploration_of_Repurposing_and_Optimizing_Traditional_Chinese_Medicine_Rutin_for_Possibly_Inhibiting_SARS-CoV-2_s_Main_Protease/12281078
It is well known that the main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 plays an important role in maturation of many viral proteins such as the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
Using silico methods (docking and molecular dynamics simulations), the researchers revealed the dynamics and 1 energetics of rutin when interacting with the Mpro of SARS-CoV-2, suggesting that the highly hydrophilic rutin molecule can be bound inside the Mpro’ pocket (active site) and possibly inhibit its biological functions.
These new study findings warrant further research in using Rutin as a treatment protocol to treat COVID-19.
While many doctors, researchers and media journalists and fact checkers who are in the payroll of big pharmaceutical corporations are against the usage of cheap and easily available non-patented herbs, phytochemicals and supplements to treat diseases including viral infections, they are still many ethical doctors and scientific researchers who see value in further researching and utiziling these easily available phytochemicals to treat diseases including COVID-19.
It is also shocking that toxic drugs that have shown no real efficacy against COVID-19 are being promoted by the American government and its various agencies such as chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine and now remdesivir (A drug whose only merit is that it is able to shorten hospitalization stay and a drug which there has been no safety studies done so far despite exhibiting certain toxic qualities.)
Thailand Medical news however warns that no readers should ever try to self-treat themselves with any supplements or drugs mentioned in any of our articles. If you suspect that you have COVID-19, immediately report to the health authorities or the nearest hospital.
Also before taking any dietary supplements or nutraceuticals such as Rutin supplements, always consult a doctor and when sourcing for such products, always stay away from Asian brands due to mislabeling or the absence of the right forms of bioactive ingredients, inferior quality and inferior potency etc. Always source for brands from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia due to ethical and credible manufacturing standards.
