Thailand Hospital News: Non-profit organization Be One has called for an urgent investigation into Phra Thong Kham Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima's Isaan province, Thailand. The demand follows reports of more than ten patient deaths due to alleged misdiagnoses. The issue surfaced after the tragic death of 15-year-old Natdanai, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident after receiving inadequate treatment at the hospital.

Tragic Death of 15-Year-Old Highlights Hospital Failings
Natdanai was admitted to Phra Thong Kham Hospital with serious head injuries. Instead of receiving appropriate treatment, he was reportedly given paracetamol and left in pain for nearly seven hours. Despite attempts to transfer him to another hospital, Natdanai passed away. His father shared the harrowing story on social media, sparking a wave of reactions from Thai netizens and other victims' families.

Victims' Families Seek Justice
Among those affected, a Thai woman recounted how her father, a community leader, died after receiving an excessive amount of saline for what appeared to be minor symptoms of flatulence and constipation. Another woman reported the death of her four-year-old daughter from appendicitis due to misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. These accounts, along with others, led victims' families to seek assistance from Be One.

Be One's Advocacy Efforts
Be One's founder, Chalida Palamart, disclosed to local media and various Thailand Hospital News outlets that more than ten families have contacted her about deaths attributed to alleged misdiagnoses at the hospital. These families, represented by four to five individuals each, plan to file complaints with the Ministry of Public Health and the police. Chalida explained that many families were initially uncertain about where to report their concerns, but their suspicions grew as their relatives’ conditions worsened under hospital care.

Hospital's Response and Call for Action
Phra Thong Kham Hospital Director Ratcharat Khamsat expressed condolences for the losses and admitted that the hospital had yet to compensate the families of Natdanai and the four-year-old girl. Ratcharat assured that she was willing to cooperate fully with any investigations into the hospital's diagnostic and treatment practices. She urged other families and patients who felt they received inappropriate care to come forward with their information.

A Reporter’s Revelations and Community Ou trage
An area reporter revealed that over the past two to three years, there have been more than ten deaths at the hospital due to doctors' misdiagnoses, with no investigations conducted so far. The reporter emphasized the most recent case involving a 15-year-old who died from a brain hemorrhage after a motorcycle accident. Initially diagnosed with a minor condition and given paracetamol, the boy's death highlighted the hospital's critical failures.

Additional Cases of Alleged Malpractice
Further incidents included a former village headman who died after being misdiagnosed with bloating and given three bottles of saline, only to suffer from acute ischemic heart disease as per his death certificate. Another case involved a child who died from untreated appendicitis. Families of these victims joined Be One in demanding accountability.

Government and Public Health Ministry’s Actions
On June 20, Be One and the families of the deceased traveled to the Ministry of Public Health in Bangkok to file a formal complaint. Assistant Minister Thanakrit Jittareerat assured that the ministry would review the compensation process for the victims and investigate the hospital’s standards and practices. He highlighted complaints of negligence and inappropriate behavior, such as staff using mobile phones during work hours.

The Fight for Improved Healthcare Standards
The grieving families made it clear that their primary goal was not monetary compensation but ensuring that no other families would have to endure similar tragedies. They hope their cases will serve as examples to prompt significant changes in healthcare standards at Phra Thong Kham Hospital.

Conclusion
The series of alleged misdiagnoses and the resulting deaths at Phra Thong Kham Hospital have shocked the community and raised serious questions about medical practices and accountability in the region. As the investigation unfolds, the families and the public await the Ministry of Public Health's actions to address these grave concerns and prevent further loss of life due to medical negligence.
