Thailand Medical: Data released by the Department of Disease Control of Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health shows that there were only 1,801 new COVID-19 hospitalizations reported for the week 19th to 25th of May 2024. This works out to an average of about 257 new COVID-19 hospitalizations per day.

The figures represent a slight decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations compared to the previous weed that saw 1,882 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 16 COVID-19 related deaths.

Local doctors and healthcare professionals are now asking questions as to how reliable are these official figures?

Some doctors are asking if these health authorities can furnish a breakdown of the hospitals and the number of cases online for the sake of transparency.

It should also be noted that in some regions, doctors are sharing information among themselves and there seems to be upsurge of hospitalized cases and if these figures were to be extrapolated even on a very conservative basis, if would surpass the reported figures unless there were some overlooked factors.

Some experts are asking if the figures are only collated from public hospitals only and whether figures from private hospitals are also included.

So far, the official figures do not give any insights into the overall spread of the COVID-19 infections within the various local communities as COVID-19 infection rates, COVID-19 test rates, COVID-19 positivity test rates etc are all not disclosed or maybe just not monitored.

The health officials have also stopped reporting as to how many hospitalized cases are requiring ICU care and how many are on mechanical ventilation.

Even in terms of genomic data with regards to the types of SARS-CoV-2 sub-lineage in circulation, there is no detailed reporting except occasionally from the usual so called ‘experts’ who just want to be in the limelight are are often quoted by certain garbage journalist from some of the local non-credible mainstream media. Most of the time these ‘experts’ are simply regurgitating ‘half-baked’ information they read on some foreign online sites based on their level of comprehension!

At present, we are only being told that the FLiRT variants such as KP.1.1 and KP.2 are possibly behind the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.&l t;br />
Some are speculating that there is an attempt downplay the actual COVID-19 situation in the country so as to not affect the local economy which is already in doldrums. There are no Thailand Medical news coverages in most of the local mainstream media for some time now about the local COVID-19 situation even when cases starting to go up since late April. And many so called local ‘experts’ keep on stating there is no need to panic as the new variants are supposedly mild and there is no evidence that these new variants are driving severity! (Why are COVID-19 hospitalizations high then is anyone’s guess!)

Alas, many are locals and healthcare professionals are now calling even out, “Don’t Thai To Me Please.”
