U.S. COVID-19 News: The situation in America is sadly getting bad and daily deaths now crossing the 2,400 mark the last few days and new COVID-19 infections crossing the 200,000 daily mark. (Sources: John Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard, the COVID-19 Tracking project, Worldometer)
As of Sunday, the total number of COVID-19 infections in America now stands at 14.57 million and the total number of Americans who have died have now reached 281,196.
Total COVID-19 hospitalizations stands at 101,276 with more than 27,000 patients in ICUs across the country.
Experts across the country are projecting that by Christmas Eve, the total COVID-19 deaths could easily exceed 320,000 and that by New Year’s Eve that figure could easily climb to more than 340,000 with the total number of COVID-19 infections to hit more than 20 million.
Although the COVID-19 vaccines are on the way, the US has a long road ahead before it can return to normal and even then we are still not sure that eh vaccines will work to help the situation.
Dr Robert Redfield, the director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, warned last Wednesday, "The reality is, December and January and February are going to be rough times. I actually believe they're going to be the most difficult in the public health history of this nation, largely because of the stress that's going to put on our health care system."
Despite so called ‘recovered status’ of numerous of these SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infected individuals, studies are now showing that up to 20 to 35 percent of these individuals will continue to exhibit a variety of conditions and symptoms.

Some studies have reported that up to 78 percent of those infected with the virus whether asymptomatic or with mild or moderate symptoms could suffer from myocarditis and need to be cautious of their conditions.

The key thing is that all these people will need continuous medical attention and constant health screenings and when considering the figures and the current hospitalization rates, the public healthcare system in the country is not the least prepared to cope with these numbers.
Already the country is not only facing a shortage of hospital beds and ICU beds but there is also an acute shortage of nurses, doctors and other medical related staff.
Many doctors, nurses and frontline health staff died in the first wave or were sickened and some have even left the industry as a result of being dissatisfied with government policies. Many hospitals now are running at extremely low staffing.

Medical equipment shortages including ventilators and also drug shortages are now coming back to haunt the authorities despite initial claims that they were well prepared.
In some states and counties, morgues are becoming overfilled and even make-shift morgues involving the usage of refrigerated containers are not able to keep up with the rising dead bodies, with many sadly unclaimed for weeks.
If the government does not intervene fast, it is projected that by mid-January 2021, the public healthcare system could come crashing down.
The country is also facing a tough down as its economy took a battering and many Americans are facing real tough times. Food Banks are facing shortages and even the healthcare sectors have shortages of supplies.
Unfortunately many other countries that have not been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic have not reached out to help the United States and Americans in their time of need. America and Americans have in many times reached out and helped many countries during their time of need but at this time, we see very little initiatives coming from these countries including Thailand, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand etc
During the tsunami Crisis in Thailand, America send help in a variety of ways but currently even when we at Thailand Medical News was trying to raise donations to start up production of our therapeutic teas and have them sent for free to be used as adjuvants in observational studies across community hospitals in various states in America to help the poorer patients, no Thais responded as they felt that as long as the problem was not affecting the country or local Thais, it was not their concern!

The world has come to a sad state of affairs and we wish that all Americans persevere through this crisis and make it safe and well. Also everyone should take all precautionary measures like wearing masks, washing hands, practice social distancing and try to isolate whenever possible to reduce the risk of getting infected.
Thailand Medical News has also prepared a simple guide to supplements, herbs and repurposed drugs that could help as prophylactics or as therapeutics and we hope that it could help individuals but please try to consult a doctor before taking any of them.
